McLaren have brought a new aero package to Barcelona this weekend and on the soft compound tyres appear to have closed the gap to Red Bull.

‘we did bring some bits and pieces and so far I can say they work. We definitely have improved in a couple of small areas, which is good. The front wing was changed and it seems it works a little bit better, so from the car?s side I can say we are definitely moving forward.’

But Lewis Hamilton was left frustrated with Pirelli’s new hard compound performance.

Pirelli have brought a new version of their hard tyre to Barcelona this weekend, the new tyre is slightly more durable than the previous version, but appears to be around two seconds a lap slower than the soft compound which has left Hamilton frustrated.

‘It was just feeling very poor with the new tyres. They are very difficult to switch on – and then to last – so my guess is that everybody will remain largely on the option tyres this weekend, as it is so much nicer to drive.’ Hamilton told formula1.com.

The drivers of course are seeking perfection and Pirelli have said that they will keep developing their tyres to stay one step ahead of the teams so that they remain out of their ‘comfort zone’.

For too many years Formula One was predictable, this season has been anything but.

Sebastian Vettel may have dominated the season to date, but unlike in previous years it doesn’t seem to really matter that much due to the competitive nature that this season has brought.

The new Pirelli tyres, KERS, DRS, has all had an influence on the racing and Hamilton predicts another good show this weekend: ‘No one can predict what?s going to happen in the next race. But I am sure that we will again put on a very good show – and even more so with such a big difference in tyres. Again I would predict that the fans will love it.’
