Toro Rosso?s Jean-Eric Vergne has been handed a post-race five-second penalty following the United States Grand Prix.

The Frenchman collided with the Lotus of Romain Grosjean whilst he completed a daredevil move going into turn one on lap 50.

The two had enjoyed a duel throughout the afternoon, but the race stewards later decided that this one incident was not completely fair as Grosjean had been forced off the track and had sustained damage that severely affected the end of his race.

The punishment was a five-second post-race penalty which dropped Vergne from ninth to tenth, elevating Lotus team-mate Pastor Maldonado back into ninth following his own post-race five-second penalty for speeding in the pit-lane.
