Jean-Eric Vergne will leave Toro Rosso at the end of the season to make way for 16-year-old Max Verstappen.
Daniil Kvyat will remain with the team as the teenagers team-mate.
There has been no news as yet of the future of 24-year-old Vergne who has collected 11 points for Toro Rosso this season and has been part of the Toro Rosso team since 2012.
It’s yet another blow for Vergne who had been in contention for a drive with Red Bull Racing following the retirement of Mark Webber.
During the 2013 Formula One World Championship Vergne had a bright start to the season, scoring points in Malaysia, Monaco and Canada, scoring 13 points from the opening 7 races.
A lot of people had assumed that it would be Vergne to get the nod ahead of Daniel Ricciardo and when the announcement was made that Red Bull had opted for Ricciardo over Vergne many in the paddock were shocked.
Vergne failed to score a single point for the rest of the season.
12 months on and Ricciardo is now out-performing Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull, with two Grand Prix victories this season, whilst Vergne is currently out of work for 2015.
?I would also like to thank Jean-Eric Vergne for all his hard work, He has produced strong performances, but unfortunately he was also hindered by some reliability problems, especially in the first half of the current season.
?We hope that we have resolved these problems and that he will be able to end the second half of this season on a high note and thereby show that he still deserves another opportunity in Formula 1.? Toro Rosso Team Principal Franz Tost told Sky Sports.
