Max Verstappen was sensationally awarded a 5 second time penalty between the chequered flag falling and the podium ceremony.

The penalty cost the Red Bull Racing driver his third place finish, dropping down behind Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.

So with the decision made the Dutchman had to put this third place hat back on the table and say his goodbyes to a bemused race winner Lewis Hamilton and runner up Nico Rosberg.

Meanwhile Sebastian Vettel had to rush over to the grandstand area for the ceremony.

In a potential other twist, Vettel himself remains under investigation for moving under braking whilst defending against Ricciardo and for swearing over team radio towards Formula One Race Director Charlie Whiting.
