Considering Mercedes dominance in 2014 and so far in 2015 its hard to look beyond Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg for the title.
In 2014 Mercedes won 16 of 19 Grand Prix and so far in 2015 they have won 4 of the opening 5 rounds.
Only two drivers and two teams have beaten Mercedes during that time, Daniel Ricciardo on three occasions for Red Bull Racing in 2014 and Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari in Malaysia this season.
In Spain, Mercedes dominance was clear for all to see, Nico Rosberg drove a controlled race, never under pressure from team-mate Hamilton or the Ferrari of Vettel, but despite being able to run their own race he still finished a full 45 seconds clear of Vettel’s Ferrari.
Rosberg closed the gap to Hamilton to 20 points and extended his own personal lead over third placed Vettel to 11 points.
But despite being 31 points adrift, the German still has his sights set on a fifth drivers title.
‘I am in the fight, We are able to improve our car.
‘We have some steps coming. We need to start turning things around very soon but we are pushing hard to beat them.’ he told the BBC.
‘I think we have done a step forward as a team. It doesn’t really show here but I am quite confident we will be stepping up our game again in the next couple of races and I look forward to that.
