Two-time Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso was forced to retire from his home Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday.

The McLaren Honda driver suffered a high speed brake failure which forced him to make a pit-stop where the team were preparing to take a look at the problem.

Unfortunately with Alonso suffering from rear brake failure he was unable to stop when he reached his pit crew, over shooting his pit box and hitting his front jack man.

Understandably spooked, McLaren opted to retire Alonso’s car immediately.

An investigation into the failure followed and the team have concluded that one of Alonso’s own visor tear-off strips had blocked one of his rear brake ducts.

This caused overheating and then total failure.

It was yet another blow for McLaren Honda, who had hoped to see an upturn in results following a number of upgrades timed for the European season.
