There have been a couple of footballing metaphors used in Formula One lately.

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has previously stated that all of the remaining Grand Prix in 2017 were being treated as one-off cup finals.

This was due to the fact that neither Red Bull Racing were in contention to battle for the Formula One Constructors Championship or either Max Verstappen or Daniel Ricciardo were in pursuit of the Formula One World Championship.

But now that Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have both wrapped up those titles, there is nothing to play for in either Brazil or Abu Dhabi.

Will the final two races of the season play out as cup finals? Or meaningless post-season friendlies?
